BioMarsh Environmental provided a continuous bulk non-potable water delivery service to support the production operations of a factory in Devon during a period of dry weather, regional water shortages and water-use restrictions.
Pressure on the local water network created a shortfall in the water needed for the factory’s production operations. As water was essential to the facility’s production processes, the reduced allocation presented a significant risk to business continuity.
A reliable temporary water supply was needed to keep the factory running around the clock. BioMarsh deployed seven 30,000-litre tankers, supported by rotating 12-hour driver shifts and on-site supervisors who coordinated the delivery operation.
Each tanker could complete up to four loads during a 12-hour shift. Across two daily shifts, this provided an operational capacity of up to 56 tanker loads and 1.68 million litres of non-potable water per day. The programme continued for approximately one month, helping the factory maintain the water supply required for its production operations.

Maintaining a Reliable Factory Water Supply
Factories and manufacturing facilities can depend on substantial water volumes for production, processing, equipment operation, cleaning and other essential activities.
At the Devon factory, prolonged dry weather and increased demand placed additional pressure on the regional water network. Water-use restrictions were introduced and the facility’s available mains supply was reduced.
Although the factory retained access to the mains network, the revised allocation was not sufficient to meet the full requirements of its production processes. Without an alternative industrial water supply, the site faced the possibility of reduced production capacity, operational delays and disruption to manufacturing activities.
The requirement was therefore for more than occasional water tanker delivery. The factory needed a managed supply capable of providing high volumes throughout the day and night, with multiple dedicated vehicles, coordinated driver shifts and on-site supervision.
The delivery programme also needed to provide accurate records of completed tanker loads and clear reporting to the client, while retaining enough flexibility to respond to changes in operational demand.
Planning the 24/7 Bulk Water Delivery Programme
Providing a temporary factory water supply on this scale required detailed planning, fleet coordination and continuous operational management.
BioMarsh & AquaMarsh allocated seven 30,000-litre water tankers to the project. Each vehicle was scheduled to complete up to four loads during a 12-hour shift before replacement drivers took over for the next operating period. This allowed the tanker fleet to continue working throughout the full 24-hour cycle.
Across a complete day, the programme provided capacity for up to eight loads per tanker, giving a potential total of 56 tanker loads per day. Each tanker could deliver up to 240,000 litres over the two shifts, resulting in a combined daily capacity of up to 1.68 million litres of non-potable water.
Operating several tankers at the same time also provided greater resilience. While one vehicle was travelling or loading, another could be completing a discharge or preparing for its next delivery. This helped maintain a continuous flow of water rather than relying on individual tanker movements.
Managing Driver Shifts and Tanker Handovers
Maintaining a continuous industrial water supply while managing driver working hours was one of the key logistical requirements of the project.
The tanker fleet operated across two rotating 12-hour shifts each day. Incoming drivers took over from the outgoing team at planned handover points, allowing the vehicles to continue operating with minimal disruption.
The BioMarsh project team coordinated driver rotas, shift start and finish times, tanker handovers, delivery schedules and loading and discharge times. Communication between day and night teams was also maintained alongside updates from the factory and on-site supervisors.
Clear shift handovers ensured incoming drivers understood the current site conditions, loading arrangements, discharge procedures and any changes to the planned delivery programme.
This structured approach helped maintain a consistent flow of tanker movements throughout the day and night.

Dedicated On-Site Water Delivery Supervision
With seven tankers operating continuously, the movement of vehicles around the factory required careful coordination. BioMarsh provided dedicated supervisors on site to oversee the tanker operation and act as a central point of contact between drivers, the factory’s operational team and the wider project team.
Supervisors directed tanker drivers on arrival, coordinated access and vehicle movements and directed vehicles towards the correct discharge areas. They also monitored tanker arrivals and departures, oversaw loading and discharge activity and helped manage driver shift changes and vehicle handovers.
Maintaining Continuous Water Availability
The bulk non-potable water delivery programme operated 24 hours a day, seven days a week for approximately one month.
Deliveries were scheduled to help ensure sufficient water remained available for the factory’s production processes throughout the project. The BioMarsh team coordinated closely with tanker drivers, water collection points, on-site supervisors and the factory’s representatives.
Multiple tankers operated at the same time, allowing water to continue arriving while other vehicles were travelling, loading, discharging or completing different stages of the delivery cycle.
This managed approach provided the operational resilience needed to maintain a dependable temporary industrial water supply during a period when the local network could not provide the factory’s usual allocation.
Supporting Factory Production During Water Restrictions
The additional non-potable water helped supplement the factory’s reduced mains allocation and support its ongoing production processes. As water was essential to the manufacturing operation, having a reliable supply in place helped the factory continue operating during the regional shortage.
The continuous delivery programme also reduced the risk of the factory’s available water falling below the levels required for production.
The project demonstrated the level of coordination required for a complex factory water supply, involving multiple tankers, repeated daily loads, rotating drivers, on-site supervisors and changing operational requirements.

Load Tracking and Client Reporting
Accurate data management formed an important part of the project.
BioMarsh created load-tracking spreadsheets to record tanker movements and delivery information associated with the programme. These spreadsheets were shared with the client, providing visibility of completed deliveries and the ongoing performance of the operation.
